This faculty teaches music courses in a professionally-focused curriculum for NWSA high school and Bachelor of Music college degree programs and provides specialized support in the areas listed above to best meet the needs of the department. This is a full-time Faculty (FAC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College’s District Board of Trustees.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conducts the NWSA Symphony Orchestra, College Chamber Orchestra, Camerata String Orchestra and Opera Orchestra and other ensembles as appropriate
  • Teaches music courses for both NWSA high school and college programs to include all levels of ensembles, all levels of applied lessons on candidates' primary instrument, and other related music courses including but not limited to theory, history, ear-training, music appreciation, conducting and arranging, and high school courses
  • Oversees, facilitates, participates in, adjudicates, and coaches all assigned department and school wide performances, faculty recitals, junior and senior recitals, recital hearings, weekly forums, all auditions and juries, department concerts, community events and other performance presentations, master classes, sectionals, and other related activities
  • Organizes and coaches chamber music groups and conducts large and small ensembles
  • Attends local, state, and other national conferences, to promote NWSA and recruit students to the NWSA high school and college music programs on an ongoing basis
  • Recommends distinguished visiting artists to the dean for consideration on an ongoing basis
  • Participates in a variety of departmental, campus and college-wide programs, activities and committees on an ongoing basis
  • Participates in curriculum development and revision for music courses on an ongoing basis
  • Participates in departmental, campus and college affairs, including faculty meetings on an ongoing basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Music; or a Master's Degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Music.
  • All educational degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in applied lessons and conducting, chamber music and orchestra teaching and performance
  • Familiarity with and use of collaborative learning techniques and student-centered methods of instruction
  • Ability to function well in a technological environment and willing to use technological tools in instruction
  • Versed with various Microsoft Office suite applications and dedicated database computer skills
  • Possess excellent communication skills and ablity to communicate effectively with students with a wide range of skills
  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates positive human relations and communications skills
  • Ability to work well with students, faculty, staff and the community
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accomodate juries, advisement, recruitment, performance and other departmentatl and school activities which may include evening and weekend assignments
  • Doctoral Stipend awarded in addition to base salary, as applicable
  • Start date for this Faculty position is anticipated on or befreol the beginning of Fall Semester 2024
Preferences
  • DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) preferred
  • Previous curriculum development and recruitment experience a plus.
  • Strong background in conducting various ensembles
