Blue Plate Restaurant Group (Blue Plate Oysterette, Blue Plate Taco) are casual neighborhood restaurants that serve fresh, better for you food combined with warm efficient service. We are a fast paced, friendly restaurant that’s been local favorite for decades in Santa Monica.

We’re a mom & pop restaurant group with local roots, and a dynamic, fast-paced collaborative working style.

About the position:

This position is about managing costs and creating an inspired, craveable cocktail menu in the restaurant when off the floor, and maintaining a presence on the floor and engaging guests. Having a thorough handle on what comes into the restaurant for beverages, small-wares and consumables, taking accurate inventories, ensuring invoices are submitted and accurate, and hitting targets for beverage and ops departments. When on the floor, all managers are to prioritize the guest experience; create a positive and energetic atmosphere, verify the facilities are reflect our standards, support the staff to ensure their success, touch tables and connect with the guests, and resolve any challenges during service. This is a 50-hour/week position over 5 shifts, which involve weekends and holidays, particularly during the peak season.

Hospitality and Floor Presence

The primary role of this position is to set the tone and foster a culture where guest satisfaction and Blue Plate hospitality is our number one priority. You are the ambassador of the brand and it is your job to maintain a service and hospitality standard that is a clear reflection of the Blue Plate restaurants. 

Here is how we achieve this:

  • Effectively supervise floor staff to ensure professional service and guest satisfaction
  • Be a role model by engaging and building rapport with restaurant guests to ensure they have an enjoyable and memorable experience
  • Ensure all FOH staff are providing the highest level of genuine hospitality so all guests leave wanting to return and tell friends
  • Check in with every table to build relationships, ensure guest satisfaction and get in front of challenges
  • Ensure team members are following steps of service, from initial greet to a warm farewell
  • Take on all guest challenges and handle them with grace and care

 

Food and Beverage Quality and Knowledge

Our job is to ensure that all food and beverage is consistent in presentation and taste within the Blue Plate standards.

  • Ensure food is properly made, seasoned fresh and visibly appealing
  • Ensure plating is consistent with food module
  • Ensure beverages are to recipe specs
  • Ensure portion control
  • Ensure all team members are tasted and knowledgeable on new food items and beverages prior to launch
  • Update beverage module

 

Human Resources

AGM will consistently hold team members accountable to the rules and standards of Blue Plate restaurants. AGM will never ignore situations and always take corrective action in a way that builds respect and the strength of the overall team.

  • Evaluate, discipline and reward according to Blue Plate standards
  • Assist in maintaining employee files
  • Ensure timely and accurate input of all new hires into POS
  • Report all necessary updates and corrections to HR and accounting department
  • Maintain and manage clock-ins/outs, breaks, overtime and break violations
  • Maintain all FOH new hire packets in conjunction with Human Resources
  • Follow hiring guidelines
  • Ensure all team members are following company policies and procedure
  • Assist in annual hourly performance reviews

 

People Skills:

  • Praise in public, coach behind closed doors, give constructive feedback when appropriate
  • Constantly develop staff in food and beverage knowledge and service.
  • Develop and Maintain strong work relationships with all staff
  • Stay up-to-date and engaged with the cocktail scene in LA and beyond
